Yorkshire Dales and Fountains Abbey Workshop - October 15th - 18th 2017

Who is the workshop aimed at?
The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their photography so photographers of all levels of experience are welcome. We will give you both practical and technical advice, as well as individual guidance and hands on demonstrations in the field. We will also look at the creative side of photography and developing your vision.

The programme
We will meet at 6:30pm on the 1st evening for introductions and a programme brief before dinner (included). Our photography commences the next morning after breakfast and runs through until 4:30pm on the final day. We will visit a number of locations over the course of the workshop which will offer you numerous challenges and allow you to fully explore your creative potential. There will also be time to review and critique your images and the opportunity to discuss them with Sarah and her assistant as we look back on our days' photography. The workshop has a relaxed format and is designed to be enjoyable as well as well as educational, so aside of improving your photography you can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings and most importantly have fun!

Transport
We will have one to two vehicles to take us between locations on days one and two, but a volunteer driver will be required if numbers dictate, and fuel reimbursed. On our final day we will visit Fountains Abbey and as we will not be returning to the hotel you will need to make your own way there from where you can then continue on to your final destination once the workshop ends. If you are traveling up by train, arrangements can be made to drop you at a convenient train station.

Accommodation
Our meeting point on the first evening for introductions will be the Wheatsheaf Inn, a traditional country inn, located just outside Asysgarth, and well located to explore this region and its wonderful photographic potential. Should you wish to stay here, we have negotiated a rate for you of £60 a night for single occupancy of a double room which includes a full English breakfast. Alternative accommodation is available at the nearby Asygrth Falls hotel, plus there are a number of b&b's in the area.

Recommended photographic equipment
SLR camera with ideally both wide angle and telephoto lenses; tripod; cable release, Whilst not essential, you will benefit from bringing neutral density graduated filters; a polariser, a neutral density filter. It is also recommended that you also bring a rain cover for your camera. A laptop and card reader is useful to select and review your images for the purpose of our image critiques but not essential. Northumberland Workshop - November 16th - 19th 2017/March 15th - 18th 2018

Who is the workshop aimed at?
The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their photography so photographers of all levels of experience are welcome. Over the course of the workshop we will help you to get the most from your camera, and work with you on composition and camera technique to enable you to capture the best images possible 'in-camera'. We will give you both practical and technical advice, as well as individual guidance and hands on demonstrations in the field, at locations chosen to both challenge and inspire you. We will also look at the creative side of photography and developing your vision.

The programme
We will meet at 6:30pm on the first evening in the bar at the Victoria Hotel Bamburgh for with an introductory talk and discussion before dinner, on each participants needs and aims - an essential aspect of ensuring that every participant gets as much as possible from the course. You will also at this stage be briefed on the programme for the next 3 days.
Our photography commences the next morning and runs through until 4:00pm on the final day. We will visit a number of diverse locations, all of which will offer you numerous challenges and provide you with ample opportunity to practice a number of techniques. There will also be the opportunity for a dawn (weather and conditions permitting) and dusk shoots.
We will have the chance to review your images in our image critique sessions, when you'll be able to discuss them with your tutors, and fellow photographers, and receive constructive feedback as we look back on our photography.

The workshop has a relaxed format and is designed to be enjoyable as well as well as educational, so aside of improving your photography you can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings and most importantly have fun! There will also be time to relax and chat over dinner in the evenings.

Accommodation
Our base for pick ups and drop offs will be the ideally situated Victoria Hotel Bamburgh. Located in the village of Bamburgh, and overlooked by its magnificent castle, the hotel was recently awarded 3 stars by the AA, and has received a Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor. We have secured a preferential bed and breakfast accommodation rate here of £60 per night(£65 in March)for single occupancy of a double room. Transport
We will have one to two vehicles to take us between locations each day. A volunteer driver will be required if numbers dictate, and fuel reimbursed.

Fitness level
We recommend that you have a reasonably good level of fitness to join this workshop. Some of the ground will be uneven, particularly on the beach, and there will be a degree of mostly flat walking to access some of the locations. The pebbles and rocks are also likely to be slippery. The pebble beach near Dunstanburgh is particularly so and great care is needed here.

Recommended Photographic equipment
SLR camera with ideally both wide angle and telephoto lenses; tripod; cable release, Whilst not essential, you will benefit from bringing from bringing along neutral density graduated filters; a polariser and a neutral density filter for long exposures of water and grasses. It is recommended that you also bring a rain cover for your camera.

Waterfalls and Coastal Landscapes of South Wales - October 27th - 29th 2017

Who is the workshop aimed at?
As with all our workshops, this workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their photography so photographers of all levels of experience are welcome. We will give you both practical and technical advice, as well as individual guidance and hands on demonstrations in the field. We will also look at the creative side of photography and developing your vision. There will be a maximum of 8 photographers.

The programme and what you will learn
The following subjects will be covered:
  • Depth of field
  • Focusing
  • Choice of lens
  • Exposure and use of the histogram
  • ISO/Aperture/Shutter speeds
  • Working with and understanding light
  • Composition
  • Use of filters

Over the two days we will visit a number of varied locations which will offer you numerous challenges and allow you to fully explore your creative potential. There will be opportunities to work on your exposure technique to record movement and also learn how filters can aid in creating the desired effect. You will also have the opportunity to capture wave movement and explore various compositions. There will also be time over the course of the workshop to review your images from the first days shoot and the opportunity to discuss them with your tutors as we look back on the days photography. As always, the workshop has a relaxed format and is designed to be enjoyable as well as educational, so aside of improving your photography you can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings and most importantly have fun!

What's included?
The workshop will comprise of two full days of photographic tuition and demonstrations, dinner on the nights of the 27th and 28th, and a packed lunch both days.

What isn't included?

Fitness level: We recommend that you have a reasonably good level of fitness to join this workshop. Some of the ground will be uneven, it may be slippery and there will be a small amount of uphill walking at the waterfalls.

Photographic equipment needed: SLR camera with ideally both wide angle and telephoto lenses; tripod; neutral density graduated filters; polariser, neutral density filter, cable release. A laptop and card reader is useful but not essential.

Our meeting point on the evening of the 27th for introductions and the workshop briefing before going for a pub dinner locally, is The Heronston Hotel, Bridgend, minutes from junction 35 of the M4. Located just a stones throw from the coast and within a 40 minute drive from the waterfalls, the Heronston Hotel is the ideal base for the weekend. Westonbirt Arboretum - Autumn Colour Workshops - 23rd & 25th October

Who is the workshop aimed at?
This workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their photography so photographers of all abilities are welcome. If, however, you are a complete beginner without any understanding of the aperture/shutter speed/ISO relationship we recommended you first have a one to one session with Sarah to bring you up to speed. The programme
We will meet at 9am when the arboretum opens for a brief introduction and brief of the day, before commencing. We will break for lunch (at own expense - there are numerous food outlets on site) at approximately 1pm for 45 minutes and finish at 5pm or when it gets dark.

Transport
You will need to make your own way to and from the arboretum. Once at the arboretum, the entire day will be spent on foot.

Fitness
A reasonable degree of fitness is required. There are no hills in the Old Arboretum, however Silk Wood does have some moderate slopes.

The fields are easily accessible - there is some walking involved however it is all on flat ground.

Long Exposures on the North Somerset Coast - November 29th

Who is the workshop aimed at?
This workshop is aimed at those looking to master the capture of long exposures with the use of extreme neutral density filters such as the 6 and 10 stop filters.
You should have a good basic understanding of your camera and be confident with it before attending the workshop. You will receive both practical and technical advice, as well as individual hands on guidance. There will also be demonstrations in the field.

The programme
We will meet at 9:00am (this may vary slightly dependent on the date you have booked) at Clevedon for introductions and a brief of the day before commencing. There will be a break for tea & coffee as well as a fish and chip lunch. The workshop will finish after sunset at which point you will be returned to Clevedon for approximately 5:00pm.

Transport
You will need to make your own way to and from the meeting point at Clevedon (you will need to park your car on one of the residential side streets). We will require one additional driver on each workshop date to help transport fellow clients between workshop locations - your fuel will be reimbursed at the rate of 15p a mile.

Fitness
A moderate degree of fitness is required. The majority of the walking is on flat ground.

SLR camera with telephoto or prime lenses, a tripod; cable/remote release, graduated filters, neutral density filters such as a 6 stop and a 10 stop. Impressions of Westonbirt Workshop - 20th & 22nd October, 1st November

Who is the workshop aimed at?
This workshop is aimed at those looking to become more creative with their camera, though the use of ICM (Intentional Camera Movement), long exposures and multiple exposures. It will also focus on producing close up captures, utilising graphics, patterns and colour. You should have a good understanding of your camera and be confident with it before attending the workshop. You will receive both practical and technical advice, as well as individual hands on guidance. There will also be demonstrations in the field.

The programme
We will meet at 9:15am at Westonbirt Arboretum for introductions and a brief of the day before commencing. The arboretum opens at 9am so please ensure you are there promptly, to allow time to make your way to the entrance where Andy will meet you outside the turnstiles. There will be a break for lunch for 45 minutes. The workshop will finish at approximately 5pm.

Transport
You will need to make your own way to and from Westonbirt. Once at the venue the entire day will be spent on foot.

Fitness
A reasonable degree of fitness is required. The majority of the walking is on flat ground but the arboretum is quite extensive.

Bluebell Workshops - 2018 dates tbc

Who is the workshop aimed at?
You should have an good understanding of the shutter speed/aperture and ISO relationship before attending the workshop. Aside of mastering the capture of traditional scenes, the workshop is also aimed at those looking to become more creative with their camera, though the use of ICM (Intentional Camera Movement), long exposures and multiple exposures. April 28th/May 6th - we will meet at 5:15am at West Woods, Marlborough for a brief of the day before commencing at 5:30. Please ensure you are there promptly. There will be a break for coffee/tea and croissants around 8-8:30. The workshop will finish at approximately 11:30.
May 4th - we will meet at 8:45am for a 9am start. There will be a break for lunch (not included) and the workshop will finish at 3pm.

Transport
You will need to make your own way to and from West Woods. I will email you a map of the car park location. Once at the venue the entire day will be spent on foot.

Fitness
A moderate degree of fitness is required. The majority of the walking is on flat ground but there are tree roots etc and the ground may be uneven at times.

We will meet at 9:30am at the Oxfordshire Pantry cafe for introductions and a brief of the day over coffee, before commencing. You will be handed your ticket. We will break around 1:30pm for lunch (not included). We plan to finish at approximately 5:30pm.

Transport
You will need to make your own way to and from Blenheim. Once there, the entire day will be spent on foot.

Fitness
The workshop is suitable for all. There is a reasonable amount of walking required but none of particularly strenuous - most is on the flat.

Who is the workshop aimed at?
This workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their photography so photographers of all abilities are welcome. The programme
We will meet at 8:45am in Stow on the Wold for a brief introduction and brief of the day over coffee before commencing. A light picnic lunch is included. The workshop finishes at approximately 5-5:30pm depending on the time of year.

Transport
You will need to make your own way to and from the starting location. We will be traveling between locations in 1-2 vehicle. If we are a large group, I may require a volunteer driver - fuel will be reimbursed.

Fitness
The workshop is suitable for all fitness levels - very little walking is involved.

SLR camera with ideally both wide angle and telephoto lenses; a tripod and cable release. Whilst not essential, you may benefit from bringing neutral density graduated filters and a polariser. Yorkshire Coastal Treasures Workshop - April 5th - 8th 2018

Who is the workshop aimed at?
The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their photography so photographers of all levels of experience are welcome. Over the course of the workshop we will help you to get the most from your camera, and work with you on composition and camera technique to enable you to capture the best images possible 'in-camera'. We will give you both practical and technical advice, as well as individual guidance and hands on demonstrations in the field, at locations chosen to both challenge and inspire you. We will also look at the creative side of photography and developing your vision.

The programme
We will meet at 6:30pm on the first evening is The Moon and Sixpence restaurant for an introductory talk and discussion before dinner on each participants needs and aims - an essential aspect of ensuring that every participant gets as much as possible from the course. You will also at this stage be briefed on the programme for the next 3 days.
Our photography commences the next morning and runs through until 4:00pm on the final day. We will visit a number of diverse locations, all of which will offer you numerous challenges and provide you with ample opportunity to practice a number of techniques. There will also be the opportunity for dawn (conditions permitting) and dusk photographic shoots.
We will have the opportunity to review your images in our image critique sessions, when you'll be able to discuss them with your tutors, and receive constructive feedback as we look back on our photography.

The workshop has a relaxed format and is designed to be enjoyable as well as well as educational, so aside of improving your photography you can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings and most importantly have fun! There will also be time to relax and chat over dinner in the evenings.

Accommodation
Our base for pick ups and drop offs will be the conveniently located Arches guest house in Whitby where we have secured a preferential bed and breakfast accommodation rate of £55 per person per night for single occupancy of a double room (£65 weekend rate)or £38 for a single room (£45 weekend rate). Fitness level
We recommend that you have a reasonably good level of fitness to join this workshop. Some of the ground will be uneven, particularly on the beach, and there will be a degree of downhill walking (followed by uphill!)to access some of the beaches.and locations. The pebbles and rocks are also likely to be slippery.

The Art of Monochrome - 23rd - 26th of November 2017


Who is the workshop aimed at?
The workshop is aimed at those wishing to learn the art of monochrome photography. Photographers of all levels of experience are welcome however if you are a complete beginner it is advisable that you complete a 121 basic landscape workshop first. Please call Sarah on 07760 498 112 to discuss.

Over the course of the workshop we will work with you to develop your vision in terms of monochrome capture. You will be guided on how to work with the available light, and the main considerations for black and white captures in terms of subject matter. We will also look at composition and the use of filters to enable you to capture the best images possible 'in-camera' ready for post production on the final day. We will give you both practical and technical advice, as well as individual guidance and hands on demonstrations in the field, at locations chosen to both challenge and inspire you. We will also look at the creative and abstract side of photography.

The programme
We will meet at 5pm on the first evening at the Pines Hotel Swanage, for with an introductory talk on monochrome techniques and considerations before dinner. You will also at this stage be briefed on the workshop programme for the next 3 days.

Our practical photography commences the next morning and runs through until 3:00pm on the final day. We will visit a number of diverse locations, all of which will offer you numerous challenges and provide you with ample opportunity to practice a number of techniques.
We will have the opportunity to review your images in our image critique sessions when you'll be able to discuss them with your tutors and receive constructive feedback as we look back on our photography.

What we will cover
Over the course of this workshop we will explore the magnificent scenery of this unique region as well as its charming villages. Where possible (weather and conditions allowing) we’ll take the opportunity to include some dawn and dusk shoots to take advantage of the favourable light and to enable us to capture the mood and atmosphere of the landscape. Throughout, we will give you both practical and technical advice, to help you gain confidence and develop your photographic technique, as well as individual guidance and hands on demonstrations in the field. There will also be the opportunity in the evenings, either before or after dinner, to have your work critiqued as we look back over our images and review your progress.

Providing the perfect base for our workshop in this stunning region is the friendly, family run Hotel Berchules, set high in the Sierra Nevada National Park and offering spectacular views of the Cádiar Valley. Surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery, it provides a relaxed atmosphere as well as delicious home cooked traditional food to return to at the end of a day’s photography.

Partners/non photographers
Should your partner also be a photographer and wish to join you on this workshop, they will pay a reduced accommodation price of 510 Euros based on sharing a room, with all meals included as above, plus airport transfers and daily transport. Non photographic partners are also welcome and will pay 480 Euros for their share of the accommodation which includes breakfast and dinner but no picnic lunch. Please note, as a non photographer no day excursions are included as we need the space in our mini bus for our photographers, so you may wish to hire a car to allow you to explore the area whilst you are here. This region offers a number of activities including some fantastic walking and mountain biking opportunities and is also home to some diverse bird-life. The staff at Hotel Berchules can help plan excursions for you.

The Ariege, Midi Pyrenees, South West France – TBC

Where we will stay
For our workshop we will be based at Le Moulin de la Materette , a beautifully converted old water mill situated in 11 acres of private grounds in the peaceful and relaxing foothills of the Pyrenees. Run by Nick and Fran Davidson, who are the perfect hosts, the Moulin is perfectly located to allow us to explore the very best this region has to offer.

The programme
We will meet at the gite on 19th of September at approximately 6:30pm for introductions and an overview of the workshop before dinner. We will have five full days of photography exploring the stunning landscapes of the area, including the dramatic Cathar castles which are found here, and the mountainous views towards the Pyrenees. We will also visit some of the regions medieval villages and towns, as well as take in a local market. There is also the opportunity to make use of the on site studio facilities which has its own printer, to view, process and print your images if you wish to do so, in preparation to have your work critiqued – an important aspect of the workshop as we discuss your images and review your progress. The workshop ends on the evening of the 24th of September, with breakfast being served before your departure on the 25th.

The Essence of Tuscany – May 16th - 22nd 2018

Where we will stay
For our workshop we will be based at Residence Casanova. Located just outside San Quirico D'Orcia, it provides the perfect base for our Tuscan adventure. With an on site pool and spa it provides the prefect environment in which to relax. In addition, each ensuite Superior Room comes with its own balcony. Tuscany is known for its cuisine and you won't go hungry with the chance to try plenty of local Tuscan dishes in the adjacent restaurant, situated in an old 13th century farmhouse.

The programme
You will be met at Pisa airport in the afternoon of May 16th at 2:30 pm and transferred to Residence Casanova in San Quirico D'Orcia. The remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure. We will meet in the evening for introductions and an overview of the workshop before dinner. The workshop commences on the 17th and ends on the evening of the 21st May. There will be an early departure after breakfast for Pisa airport on the 22nd.

    Photographic and non photographer partners
    Should your partner also be a photographer and wish to join you on this workshop, please contact me and I will advise you of the cost based on sharing a room as there will be a slight per person reduction. Non photographer partners, or friends/family sharing the same room, are also most welcome. As a non photographer, no day excursions are included as we need the space in the minibus for our photographers, so you may wish to hire a car to allow you to explore the area whilst you are here.

    Recommended equipment
    • DSLR with appropriate lenses. A bridge or compact camera will be adequate if it has manual functions - please contact info@imageseen.co.uk if you are unsure if your camera is suitable.
    • A tripod
    • Filters - a Polarising Filter and a set of Neutral Density Graduated Filter/s will help you get the best result in-camera.
    • A laptop/tablet to view and/or process your images if you wish to do so in preparation to have your work critiqued.

    Where we will stay
    For our 3 day workshop we will be based at Villa Argentina which is located in Riomagiore, one of the prettiest villages in the region.

    Getting there
    The nearest airport is Pisa to which low cost flights are available with Ryan Air from Stansted or BA from London Gatwick. We recommend you book your flights as soon as possible in order to get the best fare.

    The programme
    You will be met at Pisa airport (time tba) on April 21st and transferred by minibus to your accommodation in the Cinque Terre which will take about two hours. We will meet for dinner at approximately 6:30pm for introductions and an overview of the workshop before dinner. The workshop commences on the morning of the 22nd and ends on the morning of the 25th April, with breakfast being served before your departure transfer back to Pisa airport.

    What we will cover
    Over the course of this workshop we will explore the magnificent scenery of this unique region as well as its charming villages. Where possible (weather and conditions allowing) we’ll take the opportunity to include some dusk shoots to take advantage of the favourable light and to enable us to capture the mood and atmosphere of the area. Throughout, we will give you both practical and technical advice, to help you gain confidence and develop your photographic technique, as well as individual guidance and hands on demonstrations in the field. There will also be the opportunity to have your work critiqued as we look back over our images and review your progress.
    The workshop has a relaxed format and is designed to be enjoyable as well as well as educational, so aside of improving your photography you can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings and most importantly have fun!

    Who is the workshop suitable for?
    The workshop is suitable for all abilities, whether you are a keen amateur, or a more experienced photographer. It is not suitable for the complete beginner. Please email info@imageseen.co.uk if you have any queries.

    Fitness level
    A moderate to good level of fitness is essential for all clients as there is some walking involved (some of it quite steep) to access many of the viewpoints. A lot of the villages have steep streets to negotiate.

    Who is the workshop aimed at?
    The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their photography so photographers of all levels of experience are welcome. We will give you both practical and technical advice, as well as individual guidance and hands on demonstrations in the field. We will also look at the creative side of photography and developing your vision.

    The programme
    We will meet at 6:30pm on the evening of the 18th of August for introductions and a programme brief before dinner (included). Our photography commences the next morning after breakfast and runs through until 5:00pm on the final day. We will visit a number of locations over the course of the workshop which will offer you numerous challenges and allow you to fully explore your creative potential. There will also be time to review and critique your images and the opportunity to discuss them with Sarah and her assistant as we look back on our days' photography. The workshop has a relaxed format and is designed to be enjoyable as well as well as educational, so aside of improving your photography you can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings and most importantly have fun!

    Transport
    We will have one to two vehicles to take us between locations on days one and two, but a volunteer driver will be required if numbers dictate, and fuel reimbursed.

    Our meeting point on the first evening for introductions will be Simonsbath House,a traditional country hotel located at Simonsbath, in the heart of Exmoor.     Who is the workshop aimed at?
    The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their photography so photographers of all levels of experience are welcome. Over the course of the workshop we will help you to get the most from your camera, and work with you on composition and camera technique to enable you to capture the best images possible 'in-camera'. We will give you both practical and technical advice, as well as individual guidance and hands on demonstrations in the field, at locations chosen to both challenge and inspire you. We will also look at the creative side of photography and developing your vision.

    The programme
    We will meet at 6:30pm on the first evening in the bar at the Millstone Country Inn for with an introductory talk and discussion before dinner, on each participants needs and aims - an essential aspect of ensuring that every participant gets as much as possible from the course. You will also at this stage be briefed on the programme for the next 2 days.
    Our photography commences the next morning and runs through until 5:00pm on the final day. We will visit a number of diverse locations, all of which will offer you numerous challenges and provide you with ample opportunity to practice a number of techniques. There will also be the opportunity for a dawn (weather and conditions permitting) and dusk shoot.
    We will have the chance to review your images in our image critique session, when you'll be able to discuss them with your tutors, and fellow photographers, and receive constructive feedback as we look back on our photography.

    The workshop has a relaxed format and is designed to be enjoyable as well as well as educational, so aside of improving your photography you can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings and most importantly have fun! There will also be time to relax and chat over dinner in the evenings.

    Fitness level
    We recommend that you have a reasonably good level of fitness to join this workshop. Some of the ground will be uneven, particularly in Padley Woods and on the grit stone edges, and there will be a degree of moderate walking (some uphill) to access some of the locations.

    Fitness level
    We recommend that you have a reasonably good level of fitness to join this workshop. Some of the ground will be uneven, particularly on the beach, and there will be a degree of downhill walking to access some of the locations which of course means its uphill back! The pebbles and rocks are also liable to be slippery at times.
