Delphinium Confetti Fields

Towards the end of June and in early July, acres of delphiniums and cornflowers bloom on the Wyke Manor Estate Farm in Worcestershire. Grown to produce natural confetti, these glorious swathes of colour are a spectacular sight, both for the eye and the camera.

These colourful fields which are accessible for only a few days a year, offer the photographer numerous possibilities. Aside of the wider sweeping compositions of the fields with distant views to Bredon Hill and the surrounding countryside, there are also plenty of options for close-up detail and graphic compositions as well as the chance to be creative with patterns, texture and colour.

It's a wonderful experience to wander amongst these far-reaching stretches of colourful flowers encompassing winding paths and walkways, and this year, the Real Flower Confetti Company are celebrating their 20th anniversary with a brand new Union Jack flower flag. A sight not to be missed!

The fields are open to the public for just a short period each year and we have timed our visit for the first part of the day when it's likely to be less busy.

There are many interesting possibilities to be found here. Aside of the important considerations of composition, colour, and control of light, there will also be the opportunity for close up images, making effective use of depth of field. You will also have the chance to experiment with ICM (intentional camera movement)- to create more abstract images, as well as in-camera multiple exposures.
