Elements and Photoshop tuition

Many people, especially those new to computing, feel inhibited and unable to develop their digital photography skills because of the seemingly overwhelming amount of options available in Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Like all powerful computer programs there is much to learn and it can be very confusing to start with. But as with anything the key is to start with the basics and build from there.

Whether you have Photoshop or Elements on your home computer or laptop, based on practical experience you will focus on those functions that are useful to you, the photographer, and then reinforce them with practical exercises.

Getting to know Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements with Photoshop expert Martyn Ferry:

Here are just a few of the key skills that Martyn will show you to help you get the most out of your images:

  • How to store and catalogue your images
  • RAW, & JPEG - the vital differences
  • Get to grips with levels and curves for correction of image tone
  • Cropping, straightening, rotation
  • Cloning - get rid of unwanted elements in your image
  • Use of adjustment layers
  • White balance and colour correction
  • Resizing
  • Sharpening
  • Dodging & Burning
  • Selectively adjusting parts of an image

.....and much, much more.

Everyone approaches Photoshop from a different perspective; from the outright beginner to the reasonably familiar and from the amateur to the professional photographer everyone’s individual needs and starting points vary so learning on a one to one basis has tremendous advantages.

After assessing what you already know and what you would like to learn Martyn will guide you through the Photoshop interface, including the concept of layers, the usefulness of masks and selections; the technicalities of preparing a photograph for print or the web and how to subtly adjust exposure or colour as well as creating unusual effects. You will also learn how to make a slide show or proof sheet and how to use text to make cards and flyers. Martyn will also introduce you to Camera Raw.

Martyn will travel to you for the tuition which can be held at a location of your choosing within the Cotswold area, any locations outside this area will include an extra charge for fuel, you will need to provide a computer for yourself with either Photoshop or Elements installed and a selection of your images to work on.
